I am a tutor with extensive experience studying and teaching math and English. I was a stay at home mom for fifteen years, until I decided to go back to school to complete my teaching certification. I attended Ashland University and had the opportunity to tutor both elementary level students and high school level students. My experience as a tutor made me realize how I much I enjoy working with students on an individual basis. I currently have about a year and a half of tutoring experience. While I am comfortable tutoring students in mathematics, phonics, grammar, and writing at the elementary school level, I prefer to teach reading.I struggled with reading when I was a student, so I understand how difficult it can be. I enjoy helping students through their challenges with reading. I believe learning to read is especially important because being able to read helps students find success in every other area of their lives as well. My philosophy as a tutor emphasizes incorporating many different methods. This allows me to develop a teaching style that is flexible and can adapt to what a student needs to be successful. In my free time, I like to read mystery novels, swim, run, and participate in Irish Step Dancing.
